About Root to Tip
Root to Tip began in 2017 as a cooking competition in Christchurch which was a collaboration
between Garden to Table, Love Food Hate Waste and the Christchurch City Council. This year it's back and bigger than ever as a nationwide competition supported by Rabobank and endorsed once again by Love Food Hate Waste – so get your kids involved!
Root to Tip is a fun and creative cooking competition that encourages kids to create menus and recipes that incorporate resourceful use of vegetables and fruits that are seasonal and produce minimal waste.
The competition is open to all New Zealand schools and all children in years 5 and 6.
Encourage your kids to grab a partner and invent a two-course vegetable based menu.

About Garden to Table
Garden to Table was launched in 2009 and over 180 schools from up and down New Zealand participate in its food education programme for primary and intermediate aged school children.
It aims to instill a love of good, whole food among children by teaching them where food comes from and how to grow, prepare and cook own-grown produce. The aim of the programme is to change the way children approach and think about food, growing their enthusiasm for fresh, seasonal produce.
Garden to Table would like to thank all those involved in bringing the unique Root to Tip cooking competition together.
Rabobank is proud to be partnering with Garden to Table to bring you the Root to Tip competition. Supporting Root to Tip aligns to our global ‘Banking for Food’ vision. Core to this is our ongoing commitment to supporting NZ farmers and food producers to bring fresh, healthy food to kiwi tables, and help reduce food waste.
Rabobank’s Online Savings channel offers competitivesavings interest rates and a Wellington based award-winning contact centre. We reinvest 100% of our deposits into the New Zealand food and agribusiness sector, which means you’re a part of something truly productive.
